How much does X pay for views? What 1 million views really means
How much does X pay for views? X accepted my account into its creator payouts on 17 October 2026, and my first payout is scheduled for 23 October, so I can’t quote my own number yet. Here is what X pays for, what has been reported, and why my 1,460,106 impressions are not 1,460,106 paid views.
Short answer
X doesn’t pay for views. It pays creators it has accepted into Original Content Rewards based on qualified impressions: unique impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline, where at least half of the post is visible. Paid, promoted, artificial and fraudulent impressions don’t count. X publishes no rate per 1,000 or per million, so 1 million views has no fixed price.
Payouts come every two weeks, with a $30 minimum. What it takes to get accepted is in X monetization requirements; payouts versus the other ways to earn are in how to make money on X.
What X pays for: qualified impressions, not views
“Views” is the public count under a post, and it is not what X pays on. X’s Original Content Rewards page, last updated on 12 October 2026 (I read it on 18 October), says eligible creators “earn payouts based on qualified impressions generated by their original content”. A qualified impression is:
- unique: the same account seeing the same post again does not count twice;
- from a Premium user: a subscriber to X Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business;
- on the Home Timeline feed;
- visible: at least 50% of the post was on screen.
Paid, promoted, artificially generated and fraudulent impressions are excluded. So is reach on content that isn’t original: when the main value of a post comes from someone else’s work, X says it “won’t generate qualified impressions”. The page gives no rate per impression, per 1,000 or per million.
How much does X pay for 1 million views?
There is no official number. What circulates are reports, and the two I can point to describe the revenue-sharing payouts X ran before Original Content Rewards. X stopped taking new creators into revenue sharing on 7 August 2026.
- According to Outfy, in a guide last updated on 7 October 2026, payouts under ad revenue sharing averaged about $8.50 per million verified impressions.
- Mashable reported in August 2023 that a lawyer with 7,584 followers was paid $291.81 for his X content in July 2023; one of his posts, from 31 July, had reached 19 million impressions. The same article quotes Elon Musk telling a user who tried to work out revenue per impression: “It’s not exactly per impression.”
Treat both as reports, not prices. They describe an older program with different rules, and neither tells you what 1 million views earns under Original Content Rewards. When someone quotes you a figure for 1 million views, ask three things: which program, which impressions and which period.
Worked example: my numbers on the day X accepted me
Here is my account on 17 October 2026, the day X accepted it, from the widest count to the one that pays:
| Count | What it includes | My number |
|---|---|---|
| X Analytics impressions | posts and replies | 1,460,106 |
| Verified Home Timeline impressions | verified users, no replies | 500,000 |
| Qualified impressions | Premium users, unique, 50% visible | not in my data |
| Payout | every two weeks, $30 minimum | scheduled, 23 Oct |
The first two rows cover the same weeks: my first post was on 27 August, and on 17 October the counter’s 90-day window reached back into July. One says 1,460,106 and the other 500,000. They count different things: X Analytics counts more broadly, replies included, while the counter takes only Home Timeline impressions from verified users and leaves replies out.
Payouts narrow it again. A qualified impression has to come from a Premium subscriber, count once per account per post and have at least half the post on screen. Even the wording differs: the entry requirement counts impressions from “verified users”, the payout from “Premium users”. None of my exports splits impressions by who saw them, so I can’t tell you how many of my 1,460,106 would qualify, and I won’t guess a ratio. Among other things, it depends on how many of the people who see your posts pay for Premium.
“Views”, the number most people mean, is one more count. On 30 September the public counter under my most-viewed organic post so far showed 63,867 views, while X Analytics’ content export gave the same post 26,181 impressions:
Does anyone still use GPT-6 after the Opus 5.5 release?
My most-viewed post up to 30 September, 343,564 views, was a paid promotion on 28 August. Paid and promoted impressions are excluded from qualified impressions, and X Analytics leaves them out too: it shows 1,127 impressions for my whole account that day.
So what does 1 million views pay? X hasn’t published a rate, and my own answer isn’t in yet: my first payout is scheduled for 23 October 2026, and I’ll add the amount to this page once it’s paid.
Step by step: from views to a payout
- Qualify. Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days, plus the rest of the X monetization requirements.
- Apply in Creator Studio under Original Content Rewards. X reviews every application, and meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission.
- Set up payouts. In the US through X Money; elsewhere with a Stripe payout account and identity verification through Stripe.
- Keep qualifying. Keep Premium and keep posting original content. Don’t repeatedly ask people to like, reply, follow or repost: X counts that as soliciting engagement.
- Get paid. Payouts are processed every two weeks, and the minimum payout is $30.
My timeline so far: applied and accepted on 17 October 2026, bank details and ID submitted the same day, first payout scheduled for 23 October 2026. Getting to the requirements is what the Talk First PDF is about: stage-by-stage checklists, post templates and real examples from my account. Payouts are not the only option either: subscriptions and selling your own product are compared in Twitter monetization options for X creators.
Common mistakes when estimating X earnings
- Multiplying views by a rate. The public view count is not what X pays on, and X publishes no rate to multiply by.
- Counting promoted reach. Paid and promoted impressions are excluded from qualified impressions, so the paid part of a boosted post’s views earns nothing.
- Reading old figures as current. Outfy’s per-million average and Mashable’s 2023 payout story both describe X’s earlier revenue-sharing payouts, not Original Content Rewards.
- Posting about monetization. X lists posts exclusively about monetization coaching, monetization discussion or maximizing payouts as ineligible.
FAQ
How much does X (Twitter) pay for 1 million views?
There is no official figure. X pays on qualified impressions, not views, and publishes no rate per million. According to Outfy (guide last updated 7 October 2026), payouts under X’s older revenue sharing averaged about $8.50 per million verified impressions; that is a report about a program X closed to new creators on 7 August 2026, not a rate.
Does Twitter pay you?
X pays creators it accepts into Original Content Rewards. You need Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, among other requirements, and X reviews every application. Accepted creators are paid every two weeks, with a $30 minimum, through X Money in the US or Stripe elsewhere.
What are verified home timeline impressions?
Impressions of your posts on the Home Timeline from verified users. X’s eligibility rule asks for at least 500,000 of them in the last 90 days, and impressions on replies don’t count. Creator Studio shows them as a counter: mine read 1,200 on 3 September and 500,000 on 17 October 2026. They are not the qualified impressions that payouts are based on.
Do promoted posts earn money on X?
Not for their paid reach. X excludes paid, promoted and artificially generated impressions from qualified impressions. My most-viewed post up to 30 September 2026, a paid promotion on 28 August, had 343,564 views, and its paid reach does not count toward payouts.
How often does X pay creators?
Every two weeks, and the minimum payout is $30. X accepted my account on 17 October 2026 and my first payout is scheduled for 23 October 2026. I don’t know the amount yet; I’ll add it to this guide once it’s paid.
