X monetization requirements: a stage-by-stage checklist, with my own counter

These are the X monetization requirements as X’s Help Center listed them on 18 October 2026, kept apart from growth advice, plus the counter I watched every day until my account met them. X, formerly Twitter, accepted my application on 17 October 2026, 52 days after my first post.

Short answer

You need, at the moment you apply: an active Premium subscription, at least 500 verified followers, at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days (replies don’t count), an account in good standing, age 18 or older, a supported country, a Personal or Business account and original posts. X then reviews the application; meeting the rules does not guarantee a yes. Accepted creators are paid every two weeks, with a $30 minimum.

My counter took 44 days to go from its first reading, 1,200, to 500,000. Payouts are one way to earn on X; the others are in how to make money on X.

The X monetization requirements, as X lists them

Everything in this section is X’s, not mine: two X Help Center pages, both last updated on 12 October 2026, which I read on 18 October 2026. To join Original Content Rewards, the program through which X pays creators, you must meet all of these at the time you apply:

  • Location: be based in a country where the program is available. The page lists them; the United States is one.
  • Age: 18 or older.
  • Account standing: an account in good standing, with no history of repeatedly violating X’s monetization guidelines or Terms of Service.
  • Account type: a Personal or Business account. Accounts of political or government organizations are not eligible.
  • Premium: an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, or a Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra plan on The X Subscription.
  • Impressions: at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days. Impressions on replies are excluded.
  • Followers: at least 500 verified followers.
  • Original content: actively post content you made yourself. Copied, minimally modified and aggregated content does not count as original.

X’s Creator Monetization Standards cover every way of getting paid by X and add lines that are easy to miss: an account active for at least 3 months; a complete profile with an account name, bio, profile picture and header image; a verified email address; two-factor authentication; no state-affiliated media label; and an X Money account or a verified Stripe account, plus identity verification.

My counter: from 1,200 to 500,000 in 44 days

Creator Studio shows the impressions requirement as a counter. I read it every day from 3 September, a week after my first post, until it reached 500,000 on 17 October 2026. Roughly one reading a week:

ReadingCounterGainPer dayOf 500,000
3 Sep1,200——0.2%
10 Sep25,400+24,2003,4575.1%
17 Sep70,000+44,6006,37114.0%
24 Sep137,000+67,0009,57127.4%
30 Sep207,800+70,80011,80041.6%

14 Oct450,800+151,10021,58690.2%
17 Oct500,000+49,20016,400100%
Verified Home Timeline impressions in the last 90 days, replies excluded, as X Creator Studio showed them; 3 September is my first reading. Gain: since the row above. Per day: that gain divided by the days between the two rows, rounded.

The pace more than doubled. In September the counter grew by 7,652 a day on average; from 1 to 17 October, by 17,188 a day (median 15,200). The biggest days were 9 October (+30,600), 14 October (+29,100) and 7 October (+29,000).

The counter is not the impressions number in X Analytics. For 1 to 17 October, X Analytics showed 754,731 impressions on my account, while the counter grew by 292,200 over the same days. X Analytics counts more broadly, replies included; the counter takes only Home Timeline impressions from verified users. What that gap means for money is in how much X pays for views.

The window is the last 90 days. My first post was on 27 August, so nothing had dropped out of it by the time I reached 500,000. I did not log my verified followers, so I can’t show when I passed 500. I crossed 4,000 followers in total on 17 October, but only the verified ones count toward the requirement.

Stage by stage: what X checks and what is only advice

X checks everything when you apply, but you meet the lines one at a time. “X requires” comes from the Help Center pages above; “My advice” is what I did on one account, which X does not ask for, and your results will differ.

1. Before 500 verified followers

X requires: the lines you can settle early: a supported country, age 18 or older, a Personal or Business account, a complete profile, a verified email and two-factor authentication. Premium must be active when you apply, and the account must have been active for at least 3 months.

My advice: talk to people before you publish much. My first weeks went into replies, connect posts and answering every reply; the day-by-day version is in how to get your first 1,000 followers on X. Skip follow-for-follow and bought followers: X’s monetization standards forbid attempts to artificially inflate engagement.

2. Before 500,000 verified impressions

X requires: 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, impressions on replies excluded, and original content posted actively.

My advice: watch the counter in Creator Studio, not X Analytics, and let your own posts carry it: impressions on replies don’t count here at all. Replies still matter for meeting people (see the reply game on X); the kind of posts that carried my reach after 1,000 followers is in how to grow on X in 2026.

3. The application

X requires: once you meet everything, you apply in Creator Studio under Original Content Rewards, where you can also check your eligibility status at any time. X reviews the application and notifies you of the outcome; in X’s words, meeting the requirements “does not guarantee admission”. If it is not approved, you can appeal once; if the appeal fails, you can reapply after 42 days, as long as you still meet every requirement.

What happened to me: I applied on 17 October 2026, day 52 after my first post, and X accepted the application the same day. The Help Center gives no review time, so take mine as one case.

4. After approval

X requires: a payout setup in Creator Studio: X Money in the US; elsewhere, a Stripe payout account and identity verification through Stripe. Payouts are processed every two weeks, and the minimum payout is $30. To stay in, keep Premium and original content, use no bots or tools that inflate likes, follows or views, and don’t solicit engagement, which X describes as repeatedly asking people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost. Copied, automated or misleading posts, posts with a helpful Community Note and posts only about monetization coaching or payouts are ineligible.

What happened to me: I submitted bank details and an ID the same day. My first payout is scheduled for 23 October 2026, and I don’t know the amount yet. Nor is there a rate to work it out: according to Epidemic Sound, X hasn’t published a per-impression rate sheet for Original Content Rewards.

The Talk First PDF has stage-by-stage checklists and post templates for the growth part, and what X’s creator payouts require.

Why some pages say 5 million impressions

If a list of Twitter monetization requirements told you to reach 5 million impressions, that number comes from X’s earlier program, Creator Revenue Sharing, which asked for at least 5 million organic impressions within the last 3 months. X stopped accepting new enrollments on 7 August 2026 and points creators to Original Content Rewards instead, so pages that quote 5 million for creator payouts describe the old program.

The number is still in X’s rules for something else. Subscriptions, paid subscriptions to your account, ask for 5,000,000 organic impressions within the last 3 months and at least 2,000 active followers with Premium, according to the Creator Monetization Standards. How subscriptions compare with payouts and with selling your own product is in Twitter monetization options for X creators.

FAQ

How can I get paid from Twitter?

Twitter is now X, and it pays creators through Original Content Rewards. Meet the requirements (an active Premium subscription, 500 verified followers, 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days and the rest), apply in Creator Studio and wait for X’s review. Accepted creators are paid every two weeks, with a $30 minimum, through X Money in the US or Stripe elsewhere.

How do you get monetization on X?

Meet the requirements, then apply in Creator Studio under Original Content Rewards, where X also shows your eligibility status. X reviews every application; if it says no, you can appeal once and, after an unsuccessful appeal, reapply after 42 days. I applied on 17 October 2026 and was accepted the same day.

How many views do you need to get paid on Twitter?

X does not count views for this. It asks for at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, and impressions on replies are excluded. My counter took 44 days to go from its first reading, 1,200 on 3 September, to 500,000 on 17 October 2026.

How many followers do I need on Twitter to get paid?

At least 500 verified followers. Your total is not the number X checks: I crossed 4,000 followers on 17 October 2026, the day X accepted my application, but only the verified ones count toward the 500.

How much does X pay you per 1,000 views?

X does not publish a rate. It pays on qualified impressions, unique impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline, and according to Epidemic Sound (9 October 2026) it hasn’t published a per-impression rate sheet for Original Content Rewards. My first payout is scheduled for 23 October 2026; I don’t know the amount yet.

How much does Twitter pay for 10,000 followers?

X doesn’t pay per follower. Followers are an entry requirement, 500 verified ones; payouts are based on qualified impressions of your original content, so the follower count alone does not set the amount.

Is it easy to get monetized on X?

It is not guaranteed: X reviews every application, and meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission. How long it takes varies. One data point: my account got in 52 days after its first post; its impressions counter grew by 7,652 a day on average in September and by 17,188 a day from 1 to 17 October 2026.
